It's Official....

Today was the first drill (training) period of the new year, it felt good to be around my fellow Marines once again, basking in the enviroment of comraderie, and humorous pranks. our day was simple but yet just as tedious as it always is with standing around in formation for hours on end. we were scheduled to sit through a 6 hour block of classes concerning various military subjects such as terrorism awareness, code of conduct, ORM (Operational Risk Management), STD's etc. etc. i struggled to stay awake, i felt like i was in boot camp all over again. i had to frequently stand up to keep my self from falling asleep, but that still didnt work. one of my fellow marines attempted to keep me awake by continously hitting me anytime i appeared i was falling asleep again. after while his noble efforts became much of a nuisance, and caused me to wanna beat him like he stole somethin'. as you can see, iam the type that doesnt like to be disturbed while iam falling asleep or already asleep, and thats what that Marine was doing... disturbing my sleep !!! *ha ha ha*... after we were done with the block of classes, we marched back to the unit and this is when the famous "hurry up and wait" process took place.... we formed up into our respective platoons, and waited around for word to get passed down to us by our company First Sergeant and company Gunnery Sergeant. during this time i saw the Master sergeant who is the utilities chief for my platoon (Engineers). he is a tall, hulking black man who stands at about 6'6'', he looks like he weighs over 300 lbs. easy and he also shares a slight facial resemblance to Samuel L. Jackson, but he has a welcoming and friendly personality that resonates through his rough, menacingly tall apperance. he was standing among a few junior Marines who were inquiring about the upcomming deployment to Iraq. i casually strolled over there to do the same. i extended my hand to shake his hand and said " good afternoon Master Sergeant, Happy new year". his gigantic juggernaut like hand shook my hand as he returned the same greeting to me. as i was gettin ready to ask the Master Sergeant what was the status on the Iraq deployment, he briskly said "Williams you know your goin' to Iraq, right ?" and i responded "oh yes Master Sergeant i know, Thats what i wanted to ask ask you. i wanted to make sure i was still goin" and he said "yeah, your still goin"..... So Ladies and gentlemen..... thats right.... iam going to Iraq...... i know iam going sometime soon within a few months.... i will keep you posted as to when i will be leaving exactly.... and thats Real Talk.....

More To Come...

Starting a new year is like starting a fresh new page in a book that has yet to be touched, you decide what you're going to write, scribble, or sketch in it. i believe in order to have a productive and successful year, your intitial attitude and mindset entering the new year has to be clear of any negativity. depending on whatever current state you may be in, either mentally, physically, emotionally, and or spiritually, that will be the deciding factor for how the tone is set for the year. be optimistic, ambitious, and open minded for whats to come in the near future. 2008 held many majorly significant events that took place. with the historic election of the 1st black president being at the top of the list, its hard to anything compare anything else to that... but nonethless with each passing year, it is a time for us to reflect, grow and become something better than what we was the time before.... so in the year of our lord 2009, make a resolution to do improve yourself, and tackle all obstacles unrelentingly, and strive for excellence. with each year to come, make some good sketches, and form new ideas so you can ultimately illustrate a masterpiece of a great life that will be remembered by others for years to come... and thats Real Talk....

The Void Of Loneliness......

What does it really mean to be lonely ? what is loneliness ? why does it make us feel gloomy, depressed and unfulfilled ? these are the questions that are racing through my mind as i ponder my own state of loneliness. as a young upcomming successful black man, the idea of imtimate committment with a woman is not feasble for me at this point. i have too many things to focus my energy on besides trying to make a committment work and then become depressed after it doesnt turn out well, even though this is true, if i find a woman i feel is right for me, then i wouldnt have mind attempting a committment with that woman, the chances of finding the right woman are slim and few. but how do we ever know if there is a right person for us ? do we base that on compatibility ? do-ability (what that person can do for you) ? or both ? before i go any further with this train of thought, allow me to revert back to my original thesis, what is loneliness ? Merriam-Webster's dictionary defines Loneliness as;

1a. Being without company : Lone

b. Cut off from others : Solitary

2. Not frequented by human beings : Desolate

3. Sad from being alone : Lonesome

4. Producing a feeling of bleakness or desolation

everybody has experience this at some point in their lives, whether it resulted from a loss of someone or something we cared for, or a lack of resource (money, personal connections, etc.). i personally believe i been suffering from lonliness due to lack of female companionship. i have many friends, i have a few close friends, iam making money (not alot but still something), iam recieving an education, i have goals and aspirations for my life, and i live in a household with 4 other people (2 younger brothers, and both parents), but yet i feel unfulfilled, unsatisfied, and gloomy. I believe it is our human nature to want a close imtimate connection with somebody so we can thrive from it, and satisfy our emotional desire for companionship. being lonely feels depressing, and miserable. although you may be preoccupied with a host of other issues at hand, and you may know alot of people. at the end of the day, when your all alone, and you dont have nobody to share your feelings with, and fulfill your emotional desires, you will be left feeling all alone. the old addage "Money Cant Buy Happiness" is very true, no matter how wealthy you are, when your at the top of your game it can get lonely up there if your're by yourself. every king needs a queen and vice versa. simply because they satisfy each others intangible desires that cant be quench by the influx of royalty and riches. i also believe that being alone and independent can make you stronger and through time you will grow accustomed to being alone, but regardles, theres nothing like having the joy of sharing yourself with a special person who completes you, and reciprocates the same feelings you feel for them. now the catch-22 with this and just about all other aspect in life is if you look for companionship, it will never come, if you let nature take it course than guide the way, it will eventually lead to where you need to be and you will get what you desire. we go through things in life for reason, it is our purpose to learn from it, adapt and proceed with our lives. loneliness can be of those types of things that we have to go through in order to realize and learn how to appreciate the things in life, and not take things for granted. for example when you somebody in your life and you aknowledge their presence, but you dont appreciate them or you negatively take advantage of them, when its not there anymore and you begin feeling sad. lonely and depressed, it causes you to appreciate what you once had with that person. another purpose loneliness can serve is to teach you the importance of will power and self control. for example, when you're lonely, your emotions are being deprived of something that is essential to its gratification, if you are able use your loneliness as a way to channel your focus and will power towards something more productive, you will not only increase your level of productivity, you can cause yourself to build self control over your emotions and utilizing your will power effectively. so loneliness can have a positive effect on you depending on how you percieve it and use it. in conclusion, the subject of loneliness leaves much room for discussion and thoughts to be shared upon it, no matter what your perspective is on loneliness, ultimately, there is a general fact that remains true among all who has experienced it or is currently experiencing it, which is, loneliness sucks...!!! and thats Real Talk....

Critical Questioning

As iam sitting here at my computer, typing up this entry for my blog, i start to think about should i write. what will be the premise, the gist, the purpose behind what iam writing.... and then like a ray of sunlight beaming upon me, clearing the dark clouds of writers block, the idea dawns upon me, Critical Questioning.... that will be the topic of discussion... the ability to utilize a way of thinking that causes you to question every aspect, every detail, every possible outcome of any situation. we use critical questioning more often than we realize, whenever we begin to compare and contrast things against each other, that is a form of critical questioning. for instance; lets say you went into a sneaker store and you see two different pairs of sneakers you really wanted to buy, but they have two different prices, and made by two different manufacturers, now you start to think "Hmmm, which one should i choose ?" you begin to weigh the pro's and the cons of what each pair of sneakers has to offer, as far as style, comfortability, durability, level of maintenance, etc. then you look at the price, and you may ask yourself ; "Are these sneakers worth this price ?", as you are continuously contemplating about which sneaker to purchase, your level of critical questioning begins to increase, you begin to think and question as far as how well the sneakers will accessorize with your wardrobe, how many outfits can you waer with that particular sneaker, etc. , after you've asked all the questions you could possibly ask, and analyzed everything, you're ready to make your decision. although there are plethora of other things to question critcally in life, nonetheless its important that you understand the value, and usage of Critical Questioning. its in our nature as humans to be curious, and inquisitive about things, but what separates intellectual people from average people is their ability to use Critical Questioning to produce Critical Thinking which leads them to make better decisions. whenever your feeling tired, or lazy, take the time to use ur brain's energy to think and question "Why am i tired ?", "Why am i feeling lazy ?", "Why do i prefer not to work, and play all day ?", be persistent, and relentless in your questioning of something until u can question it no more. if you look at the word QUESTION, what other word do you see ? look at the prefix of the word, QUEST-(ion), and think about it.... a QUESTion is a QUEST for knowledge, you QUESTion an issue when your looking or QUESTing for knowledge (answer) of that issue.....

According to Merriam Webster's dictionary Qestion is defined as;
1) An interrogative expression often used to test knowledge
2) An interrogative sentence or clause
3) A subject or aspect in dispute or open for discussion>(Issue, Problem, Matter)
4) To interrogate intensively>(Cross-examine)

And Quest is defined as;
1) An act or instance of seeking>(Pursuit, Search)
2) To search for
3) To ask for

Now that i've established the connection beteween those two words, you should have a better understanding of what questioning really is. once you begin to utilize the Critical Questioning technique, you will increase your cognitive ability to process and understand situations in a variety of ways, and you will also learn how to make well informed decisions based on this technique and thats Real Talk....

The Ten Rockefeller Comamndments....

In order to fully understand what this system of strongly structured principles and convictions are about, lets us first analyze and understand what is belief ?! what does it mean to believe in something ?!

Merriam Webster defines Belief as :

1: a state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing

2: something believed, especially a tenet (principle) or body of tenets held by a group

3: conviction of the truth of some statement or the reality of some being or phenomenon especially when based on examination of evidence

SYNONYMS:

Faith, Credence, Credit

-Belief may or may not imply certitude (state of certainty) in the believer

"My belief that I had caught all the errors"

-Faith almost always implies certitude even where there is no evidence or proof

"An unshakable faith in God"

Based upon that definiton of Belief, i will provide a detailed analysis of what i think about the principles of "The Ten Rockefeller Comandments"

"I Believe in the supreme worth of the individual and in his right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

-Ok, ideally this sounds like something any right minded individual would agree to. everybody is worth something, whether their worth is of great or little value, tangible or intangible, regardless everybody has some level of worth. now how worthy that person is decides on how much effort and hard work they invest to increase their worth. everybody has a right to live, have liberty, and pursue what makes them happy. and unless they prove otherwise by committing some sort of heinous crime such as murder or rape

"I believe that every right implies a responsibility; every opportunity, an obligation; every possession, a duty."

-The direct realtionship between the each of the words listed in this "commandment" implies that balance is key to success, the old addage "You Cant Get One Without The Other" applies to this commandment. if you look closely and read the words and understand what they mean, then you will realize the point iam trying to make.

"I believe that the law was made for man and not man for the law; that government is the servant of the people and not their master."

-True, very true, i agree... the purpose of our government is to serve the people, but also we have to realize that the government is operated by people like me and you, so in order for a good productive government to be established, we need good productive people to operate it.

"I believe in the dignity of labor, whether with head or hand; that the world owes no man a living but that it owes every man an opportunity to make a living."

-Our country was built from hard labor, over 400 years worth (if you catch my drift), without hard labor we wouldnt be able to enjoy the luxury and practicality of the resources we have at our disposal now. the world is like a big canvas and we have the ability put nearly anything we can imagine on it, so based on that yes the world does provide ample space and opportunity to make a livng doing whatever we please

"I believe that thrift is essential to well ordered living and that economy is a prime requisite of a sound financial structure, whether in government, business or personal affairs."

-Thrift as defined by the merriam-webster dictionary means " Healthy and Vigorous Growth" or "Careful Management Especially of Money" so by that definition this is very true, without careful management of money in an economy or even in your personal life, will lead to problematic situations that will be hard to control, be mindful of how u spend ur money

"I believe that truth and justice are fundamental to an enduring social order."

-Truth and justice important elements to create any type of establishment where social interaction takes place, but how much these elements are actually practiced, is another story....some people play a conniving game of cutthroat to ascend to a higher level of success, indiscriminate of who they take down in their path.

"I believe in the sacredness of a promise, that a man’s word should be as good as his bond; that character — not wealth or power or position — is of supreme worth."

-This principle touches base on the ideal of possessing an intangible self worth that is greater than any type of financial worth or power authority. this principle is no different from the beliefs of what street hustlers and drug dealers believe in, your word is your bond, as Al Pacino said in the hood cult classic, Scarface; "All I have in this world is MY BALLS and MY WORD and I DON'T BREAK THEM FOR NO ONE." and thats Real Talk.......

"I believe that the rendering of useful service is the common duty of mankind and that only in the purifying fire of sacrifice is the dross of selfishness consumed and the greatness of the human soul set free."

-Dross as defined by Merriam-Webster's dictionary is (1) The scum that forms on the surface of molten metal, (2) Waste or foreign matter (3) Something that is base, trivial, or inferior. I agree with contributing some sort of beneficial service, or deed to better a community/soceity etc., and help it grow, i agree that the more a person takes part in contributing these types of deeds, personal selfishness will be less prevalent, but it will not be completely rid of, i personally believe there if there's ever a time when a person's life depended on it, personal selfishness would automatically kick in because it is our human nature to fight to survive, not sacrifice ourselves, hence the term "Survival Of The Fittest, sacrifice is based on will not nature

"I believe in an all-wise and all-loving God, named by whatever name, and that the individual’s highest fulfillment, greatest happiness, and widest usefulness are to be found in living in harmony with His will."

-This one is tricky for me particularly because iam not a religious person, iam undecided, i cant confirm or deny the presense of a higher power, but regardless, i can agree to the latter part of this principle which says " The Indiviual's Highest Fulfillment, Greatest Happiness, and Widest Usefulness Are To Be Found In Living Harmony With His Will", if u really think about it this is true, accomplishment of goals (minor or major), can lead to broad based productivity (the more you know the more you can produce), which can lead to happiness because you have confidence in your abilities and you are empowered by your knowledge, your status is up to par, as a end result of all those things leading in succession, it synchronizes with the power of your will.... which means that all of what you gained thru your knmowledge and accomplishments as an individual, was made possible by your will power, your desire to want more from life

"I believe that love is the greatest thing in the world; that it alone can overcome hate; that right can and will triumph over might."

-Love is a splendid thing, its a powerful emotion that is shared among many people that induces happiness, kindness, affection, and a host of other emotional feelings that are inexplicable, althoght love can overcome hate (in some cases) love can also blind you from reasoning, and rationale, it can lead you to make poor decisions which can negatively effect the outcome of certain circumstances that require only cognitive reasoning, and rationale, without emotional influence, such as business. this principle also states that right "Can and Will Triumph Over Might" i diasgree with that, solely because if my might is stronger and more powerful than whats deemed to be right, then i win, one person's right can be another person's wrong, it happens in business all the time, if my corporation is bigger and more lucrative than yours, i have the power to take over your corporation, and take all your customers and put you out of business without a crumb left on ur plate.... is that morally right ?! no.... but its right for my interest and my corporation, my might to make money was bigger than your right to eat....

"Thoughts ?"

-yeah, i got some final thoughts i would like to share, i find it ironic that a ruthless business tycoon such as John D. Rockefeller would comprise a list of principles or "commandments" that expresses the righteousness and nobility of a saint... i suppose in the business world, the best way to succeed is to stab your opponent in the back wearing a velvet glove..... which means that you have to present yourself as courteous and kind as possible to throw your opponent off balance which symbolizes the "the velvet glove" meanwhile your strategizing to to gain dominance and power over your opponent which symbolizes "stabbing your opponent in the back".... regardless, survival of the fittest ultimately prevails in society, and if ur not mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually fit to survive then u will perish... and thats Real Talk....

Real Response

Today is Sunday, its 10:03am and iam at work, hardly working, i just finished reading my colleague, Don P., blog titled "Eat Well, or Sleep Soundly", in his blog he goes forth in discussing the importance increasing monetary wealth, and success through establishing self worth and self value by enabling yourself to contribute something meaningful for the purpose of society, just as Madame C.J. Walker did with her line of hair care and beauty supply products for women, Rober L. Johnson as the founder of B.E.T., and John H. Johnson (no relation) as the founder of Johnson Publishibg Company which is the producer of Jet & Ebony Magazines, although Don P. listed some examples of white men "Bill Gates- Microsoft/ John D. Rockefeller- Standard Oil/ Henry Ford- Ford Motor Co." whose contributions are equally important, i decided to use examples of famous african american business owners, and entrepreneurs because their contributions hold a special significance within the african american community, they made history through their success and as a result they have broke down barriers, and opened up doors for people like Russel Simmons, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Sean "Jay-Z" Carter, and forthcomming generations of young, eager intelligent black minds who aspire to make something productive of themselves and benefit society. an original quote i would like to state is "you're only as great as you allow yourself to be"... think about that.... no, really, undersatand what that means, there are people struggling to make a living for themselves and find out what their purpose in life is, i personally fit within the that description, but i do know what i would want to do with my life, i want to become a teacher, i have the desire to help young kids learn and be become better people, as Whitney Houston said in the beginning lines of her hit song "The Greatest Love Of All"...
"I Believe The Children Are Our Future, Teach Them Well and Help Them Lead The Way"...
this statement holds much truth to it and because of that, i wish to positively mold the minds of impressionable young kids who may possibly someday grow up to be the next Madame C.J. Walker, or the next John D. Rockefeller, or the next Sean Cory Carter aka "Jay-Z". ultimately the point iam tryng to make is that thru my goal of wanting to be a teacher, which in turn, benefits society because iam educating young kids, helping them towards a bright and productive future, therefore my self worth and self value is greatly appreciated and recognized by others, which can lead to an increased income, but more importantly, by being a teacher i believe i would attain a level of personal greatness, and satisfaction that would make the quality of my life much better...... so i will "Eat Well, AND Sleep Soundly" in the mist of knowing that one day, i will be as great as i want to be.....
